ROLE | DIRECTION, WRITING, animation & DESIGN
Parallel is a video installation and a short film that attempts to explore the multiple possible outcomes of the same situation at key points in an individual’s life.
It aims to investigate the effect of these outcomes on the individual while exploring the structure of a linear but parallel narrative and the possibility of simultaneous existence of multiple realities.
Since this piece had to be a projection mapped installation as well as a film, my original references drew heavily from isometric compositions and low-poly game art to create a relevant context for the visual styling and narrative.
Some initial thoughts and ideas for the construction of the installation and character designs.
Based on the low-poly isometric style inspiration, I developed a tool kit to create characters and environments for Parallel.
I decided to create a three step structure - each step would represent one version of the narrative. Cardboard mockups and CG renderings were used to iron out the details before constructing the final structure in plywood and styrofoam and prep it for projection mapping.
Animation & Projection Mapping
All the animation and rigging was done in Cinema 4D and rendered in modules so it could be both edited together as a film and compiled as a projection mapped installation though Madmapper.
